News of Michael Jackson's death was apparently so shocking that football could not distance itself from it.
On Friday, a day after the death, I saw this story on a hardcore football website mourning the passing of the so-called King of Pop. I felt it was an isolated case as the link to football was purportedly the fact that Wacko was to have performed at next year's World Cup in South Africa.
Okay that's cool.
And then you can imagine to my consternation when I heard reporters asking coach Bob Bradley and Landon Donovan for reactions to MJ's death after the match.
After a game in which the USA captain had seen his team's 2-0 lead overtaken by an inspired Brazil team.
Honestly, if I were Donovan, I am SURE to have hurled unprintable four-letter words at the reporter. Yes, MJ was a great guy but honestly...!

Your poll results + Brazil winning celebrations video!
Ok so at the start of the Confederations' Cup, I asked who you thought would take it.
Most of you were remarkably astute.
Brazil had 50% of the votes; Spain, 20%; USA, Italy and Egypt all had 10% each.
And if you notice, that is exactly what happened in the competition. Neat.
Well, so as Brazil won the polls here, they won the real thing and here is a video of how they celebrated.
It seems these Brazil boys are religious bunch eh?
And so, the South African story is well done...and done well too.

Confed Cup: Videos of the the final games
Morning, everyone.
Sometimes the week seems to start with its head on its feet. What am I saying? Well, never you mind...
Anyway, so the Confederations' Cup is over. Two weeks of breathless football is over.
To me, it has been a resounding success. The football, the drama, the suspense, the atmosphere (yeah, and the vuvuzela) was all there.
What more, may the football world want in a Confederations' Cup? And, for the umpteenth time, it is not a pointless tournament. No, it aint.
To the football now and in the second parts of the Brazil - USA/Spain - South Africa stories, here are the highlights.
The rainbow boys could not beat the Spanish, once again.
After that brave fight from South Africa who were underdogs, Brazil had their own underdog performance in the first half of the final but managed an overdrive rally in the second.
So, respect the Confed Cup champions: Brazil!
