Lemerre leaves Lions

Morocco coach Roger Lemerre has parted ways with the national side after just over a year in charge of the team.

The former Esperance and Carthage Eagles manager has presided over a disappointing final group stage of the 2010 World Cup/Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with the Atlas Lions having managed just two draws and a surprise home defeat to Gabon in their three matches to date.

It makes their participation at the World Cup in South Africa highly unlikely, and has left them struggling to win a place at the Nations Cup in Angola.

According to sources, Lemerre and the Moroccan Royal Football Federation have finally reached an agreement on a compensation package after the former French national team boss had demanded €2-million to walk away from the job.
