Kick off 1930GMT

Venue: Johannesburg

New Zealand

New Zealand’s hopes of progressing to the next round of the live Confederations Cup were ended by a 2-0 defeat against hosts South Africa. Red Star Belgrade striker Bernard Parker scored both the goals for Bafana. It could have been so much worse for the All Whites if South Africa had taken all the chances that came their way.

New Zealand are only playing for pride in this game, and their performance in the tournament so far has been anything but good. They have given away possession too easily, and their dream of getting a point in this tournament looks like it will remain a dream. Coach Ricki Herbert is expected to ring in the changes for the last game.

Iraq

Iraq lost 1-0 to Spain in their last game, but their stubborn defending nearly got them a point. While the Spanish bossed possession, they could not breach the Iraqi defence. Keeper Mohammed Kassid did not have much to do in the game, and Iraq left the game with their heads held high.

Iraq can enter the semifinals provided they beat New Zealand and Spain beat South Africa. In such a scenario, it would come down to goal difference, which is why we may see a more attacking display from Iraq against the All Whites.
